The head bolts or studs are a weak point, the heads will lift above 10 or 12 psi in short order. Recently Wes or somebody floated the idea that 7.3 head gaskets were stronger than the 6.9 because of the filled coolant channel.The frantz filter is a proven one and they do work well! One nice thing about them is you will never have to worry about running out of replacement elements for them. Earlier 7.3 IDI heads have coolant ports facing the intake (valley pan) gasket, which are simply dead-headed there by the gasket. Later model IDIs have plugs pressed into the heads here, so it won't leak even without the valley pan gasket. Your 91 is like my 89, not sure if the pedals will swap. I know 1986-dwn will not swap. I used a 89 donor. The driveshaft was different. I could have used my auto driveshaft, but the 5 speed shaft was thicker and had larger u-joints. I had to swap the yoke on the rearend so the u-joint would fit.As Calvin said, drain the oil so the area will be a bit cleaner and you're not fighting the oil trying to escape. Clean up the outside of the hole carefully for better holding and seal. But be careful there in case the surrounding area is weakened. I plugged a hole in my Trooper's radiator top tank years ago with JBW.Its not very long. Install the jets before you attempt installing the pistons. Those bolts are a special grade bolt too. Do not use a home depot bolt. The engine harmonics will crack the bolts and then you loose a poston of the complete engine because you have no oil pressure.1. Location. utah. Actually, it seems that the zf5 uses a bell housing adapter to connect to the IDI, but the zf6 doesn't use one to connect to the powerstroke. I'll see if I can't dig up a pic. The clutch hydraulics are all the same.
