It took me less than 5 minutes of Googling to determine that the Marlin Express line of guns has been discontinued, and were the only firearms ever factory chambered for .308 Marlin Express. They also made a .338 Marlin Express at one time, designed to try and duplicate .30-06 performance.

To me the only similarity between the two is the designation .308. Thats where it finishes. The rest is so, so different. The general idea is to only fire from the rifle the ammunition it is designed for. If the MX was designed for .308 Win it would say so on the side of the barrel.
